California Get Your Business Online

Google launches “California Get Your Business Online"

Google wants to help small businesses build and promote a website.

According to Google, 97% of Americans turn to the Web for local products and services, but only 38% of small businesses in California are online. To address this need, Google launched a program called “California Get Your Business Online" that offers small businesses in the Golden State the opportunity to get a free customizable website, as well as access to in-person training on how to build a successful online business.

Google will pay for the domain name and provide free Web hosting for the first year, then businesses will pay $2 monthly for the domain name and $4.99 monthly for Web hosting.

Google has already rolled out similar programs in other states around the country including North Carolina, Michigan and Georgia, but Aaron McLear, a spokesman for the Internet giant, said California is by far the biggest market to have access to the program.

“There is a perception that getting online is hard, that it's expensive and time consuming," said Scott Levitan, Google's director of small business engagement, in a statement. “As a company with roots in California, we want to make it fast, easy and free for any business in the state to get online."

Small businesses in California can go to www.CaliforniaGetOnline.com to sign up for the free service. From there, they'll be able to create a URL and choose a website template they can customize.

In mid-March Google will host some free training seminars to help business owners learn not only how to build their website, but also secure the domain name, connect with customers, and even venture into micro targeted advertising.
The seminars will be held March 12 and 13 at Siren Studios in West Hollywood. Other seminars will take place in Irvine (March 14), Bakersfield (March 15) and Sacramento (March 16).

Country

Thailand, the only Southeast Asian nation never to have been colonized by European powers, is a constitutional monarchy whose current head of state is HM Bhumibol Adulyadej. A unified Thai kingdom has existed since the mid-14th century, and Thailand was known as Siam until 1939 when it officially became the Kingdom of Thailand.

Geography

Thailand is the 50th largest country in the world; most nearly equal in size to Spain.

Located just 15 degrees north of the equator, Thailand has a tropical climate and temperatures typically range from 19 to 38 degrees C (66-100 F).

Thailand’s largest peak, Doi Inthanon, is 2,565 meters (8,415 ft) tall.

Thailand covers 510,890 sq km of land and 2,230 sq km of water.

The coastline of Thailand is 3,219 km long.

Thailand’s longest shared border is with Myanmar (Burma), stretching 1,800 km.

Weather

The weather in Thailand is generally hot and humid: typical of its location within the tropics. Generally speaking, Thailand can be divided into three seasons: “hot” season, rainy season, and “cool” season, though Thailand’s geography allows visitors to find suitable weather somewhere in the country throughout the year.

Area

Thailand has a rough geographical area of 514, 000 sq km (200,000 sq miles). This makes Thailand roughly equivalent in size to France or Texas.

Language

More than 92% of the population speaks Thai or one of it’s regional dialects. While the Thai language is the official language of Thailand, as a result of its cosmopolitan capital city and established tourism infrastructure, English is spoken and understood throughout much of Thailand.

LA Epicurean Festival gives Your Weight in Wine

LA Epicurean Festival
By RobTaylor More than 800 guests populated the Third Annual Boutique Trade Show and Epicurean Festival hosted by the Club Culinaire of French Cuisine at the Hotel Sofitel Los Angeles.
Guests could view, taste and purchase more than 500 specialty products including cheeses and meats, wines and spirits, olive oils, organic chocolate , coffees, teas, meats and produce.  Many of these products, such as the handmade truffles, are hard to find and were offered to guests at a substantial discount.
There was a drawing for those who visited every booth, which, with more than 60 tasting stations each with multiple treats and drinks,  was a marathon accomplishment in itself.   The featured door prize was your weight in wine!  A human size balance scale was offset by cases of wine. The lucky winners received 6 to 7 cases of fine wine each!
Culinary students, pastry chefs, sous chefs, sommeliers, and mixologists competed for the coveted LA Epicurean Cup.  The chefs collected ten Festival products of their choice to create  cold appetizers while the sommeliers found wines in the show to pair with the appetizers. The mixologists were asked to concoct a tasty and artistic cocktail with five ingredients from the Festival.  The students competed for the best pizza with the theme summer time.
The pastry chefs brought to life delights from Michel Richard's dessert cookbook, Sweet Magic. Richard, of Citronelle was one  the judges, so he was well prepared know what they should taste like.
Other contest judges were Josiah Citrin of Melisse in Santa Monica; Franck Savoy, director of restaurants of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas; Michel Cornu, culinary director of Raymond Vineyards in Napa Valley, Mark Mendoza, head sommelier-wine director at David Myers Group, and Sophie Gayot of GAYOT.com.
